Rafael Nadal will play Fernando Gonzalez in the final of the Olympic men's tennis tournament. While Nadal is surely not a surprise, Gonzalez was a 125-1 shot to win the gold medal in Beijing Olympics. Now the betting odds on Gonzalez to win the tennis final are 6-1 but the betfair trader can trade out and secure his profit before Sunday. Of course he can also not lay his bet and stand to win 125 times his original stake. Not bad I’d say!
When the men’s tennis tournament started in Beijing, Rafael Nadal’s betting odds were around 3.50 (decimal odds). Today the betfair trader or bettor is offered 1.17 on his money if Nadal wins the gold medal tomorrow. Is there value in that bet? I can’t be sure. Nadal is almost always considered a favorite whenever he reaches a final. Besides, considering he is expected to climb in Number 1 of the world tennis rankings on Monday and regarded as the top tennis player today, it seems like a safe bet.
On the other hand, the tennis final in Olympics 2008 can have dramatic moments and be a close match, which will mean that the betting odds of Gonzalez will shorten offering the opportunity to the betfair trader to make money trading. Betfair trading is all about making the right choice at the right moment, and I think backing Gonzalez prior to the game and laying off in-play, could win some profit. Otherwise Nadal won’t allow any doubt about who the top tennis player is at the moment and make a killing tomorrow. To tell you the truth, the image below makes me not to worry at all!

Gonzalez betting odds were 120-1 when the tennis tournament started. When the betfair trader matched a back bet at 120, he offered himself the possibility to trade out today by placing a lay bet at 6.4 securing a profit (Betfair trading: How to Green Book).
